SE1A RENOVATION
One Renovation Project
Mamod SE1A Static Engine
Complete
shambles! We began to wonder what we had taken on.
The boiler
had been through the wars - by the look of it.
Ripping
off the chimney didn't help. But the rivet was revolving
and the rest of it look to bad we thought - what the heck!
Someone said
we could freeze the boiler full of water
and the dents would come out. Don't bother, they don't.

Here we go
with the base tidy up. Rust everywhere.
Things
started to look up - a bit.

What a mess
here. It's the flywheel and piston/cylinder assembly.
A massive
clean up and the engine frame is looking more like it should.
This is the first undercoat.

A bit more
encouraging. Not quite apple green but a Halfords colour.

It's amazing
what paint will cover up.
Not
perfect, but looking pretty good.

Taking
shape using a different boiler. The original one was scrapped.

We cleaned,
and resprayed the flywheel. Nice thick rim on this one.

Using nuts
and bolts we assembled the working parts.
Because we changed the boiler the pipes were not ending in the
right places so they were lengthened with pipe joining pieces.

Still in
workshop mode but looking like progress.
See the joiners?
And the new SE3 boiler band?
We like that appearance. Shines up nicely.
We used one of our new fireboxes that we sell.

All shined
up and ready for a bit of admiration. All done.
