Solid Fuel Tablets
Fuel for your Mamod or Wilesco steam engine is normally provided by Mamod or MSS solid fuel tablets. They fit into the solid fuel burner tray and are placed under the engine boiler when lit using matches or, better still, a kitchen gas cooker lighter.
MSS solid fuel tablets are cheaper to buy. Also, they are recommended by us.

It's not just any old oil you know! This lubricating oil is the only grade of oil recommended by Mamod Ltd for working parts. Without the correct oil, the effect of heat and steam can cause oil emulsification leading to a rapid breakdown in surface protection. Now, it's not the end of the world if that happens, but it will place additional burden upon your pocket as you buy a new piston assembly in a couple of months! You have been advised............
Be the user of genuine Mamod parts!
LABEL MAY BE PRINTED IN RED.
Suitable for all Mamod steam engines. They are covered by a thin layer of wax to help with keeping the tablets dry when in mildly damp conditions. This is a good thing because it is a safety factor which makes igniting a rather slow process using matches.
We use a mini butane blow torch to ignite ours in the workshop.
IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE OF THE UK PLEASE DO NOT ORDER - CANNOT BE TRANSPORTED OVERSEAS.
This is what you've been dreaming of for so long.
You are fed up with spending too long dribbling water into your boiler and then spilling it everywhere.
This is so simple. See the detaled description.
So simple ...........
AVIATION LAW PROHIBITS US SENDING SOLID FUEL TO OUTSIDE OF THE UK:
IF YOU DO ORDER FROM OUTSIDE OF THE UK WE WILL REFUND YOUR MONEY - SORRY.
Solid fuel for your MSS Loco:
You will need just one tablet, snapped in two for each firing.
Each firing will burn about for 8 minutes providing around *5 minutes of Loco run time.
*This time depends upon the ambient temperature for example in your garage a cold day in January will reduce the steam produced per minute than a hot summers day.
If you are thinking whether a meths burner is better, the answer is "not really". However a gas burner (££) is a good idea, but you have to be really careful not to run the boiler dry. This will cost you a lot of money and you'll cry all night!
